Scotland work exchange renovation project

Brunstane is a medieval house built in a northeastern suburb of the city of Edinburgh, just a short distance away from the centre. The core of Brunstane goes back to at least the 14th-century. The original defensive tower house was later extended to form an “L” shape then, in 1639, a new spiral staircase, emblazoned with the escutcheon of John Maitland, later Duke of Lauderdale, and his wife, Lady Anne Home, was created in the corner of the “L”.

Volunteer information

Accommodation is offered for free in exchange for assistance in the garden and in continuing the restoration and repair of Brunstane House. You must be available weekday afternoons, approximately 1pm to 5pm or equivalent. A minimum of 2 weeks stay is required in order to participate in the program.
