Program details

Summer farm volunteering with room and boardBlenheim is a certified organic family farm mainly focusing on vegetable production. The farm offers a summer volunteer program, in which participants work in the fields, greenhouse, hoop houses, barn, and occasionally the farmer’s market. In exchange for your help, you’ll get free vegetables, room and board and an unforgettable experience.

The farm is nestled in the woods less than a mile from the Potomac River. It’s perfect for bird-watching, hiking, and watching gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Farming is hard work, but it’s worth it for the views, the birdsongs, and the peaceful beauty you can enjoy when the work is done.

About the volunteer program

For many people, coming to the farm is an escape from their usual day-to-day. We have people from all over the country come work with us, and many have such a great time, they return summer after summer.

Farm work includes harvesting, weeding, sowing, irrigating, and prepping for market. It’s challenging but fun work. Responsible, easygoing people are needed who love food, love nature, and want to experience organic farming.

There is a small one-room cabin with bunkbeds (sleeps two) and also there is a space to pitch a tent on the property if you like camping. Length of stay varies – volunteers are welcome to stay for a morning or for a season.

Accommodation

A small one-room house with two bunkbeds and a half-bath is available for volunteers. It has A/C in the summer and heat in the winter. When you stay there, you’re welcome to explore the beautiful farm and the surrounding woods as much as you like. You’ll have full use of the barn kitchen and a full bathroom in the house.

Things to see

Blenheim is located just down the road from Washington’s Birthplace National Monument, a national park overlooking the Potomac River that’s free and open 7 days a week.

Nearby is the little town of Colonial Beach, where you can grab a drink at the tiki bar, enjoy live music, and walk down the pier. There’s also the Ingleside Vineyards, Angelo’s Pizza & Raw Bar, and the newly opened Montross Brewery, and grocery stores, all within a short drive from the farm.
