Sun Moon Farm - work exchange in New Hampshire

Sun Moon Farm is located in Rindge, New Hampshire — a small New England town that is just a few miles from Mt. Monadnock and only an hour and half from Boston/Cambridge. The property includes woods and fields that are a good place to explore, there is a “rails-to-trails” path that allows easy biking to nearby towns, and there are many plays to swim, kayak or canoe in the many ponds and lakes in the area. Sun Moon Farm is owned and operated by Craig and Megan Jensen. They have six acres of gardens and sell vegetable and flower shares through the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model to 130 members. 2021 is their eleventh year offering a CSA in Rindge on land that has been continuously farmed since 1787.

About the work exchange program

Sun Moon Farm, New Hampshire

Sun Moon Farm grows food all year round and for the past 10+ years they welcomed three or four interns to share the season with them. Sun Moon Farm is a diverse and intentionally small family farm that is committed to good stewardship of the land, the value of relationships, and sharing the joy of our work with others. The primary focus is helping to build a resilient community by growing and sharing a diverse mix of vegetables. They also bake bread, cultivate heirloom flowers, and have many other interests both agricultural and beyond. The farm is not organically certified, but follow ‘beyond organic’ chemical-free practices. Sun Moon Farm is a founding partner of a small intentional community called The South of Monadnock Community — they share this beautiful land with a working animal farm and five other families.

As Quakers, Craig and Megan live by core testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship. No one is obligated to share their religious views, but they do expect applicants to share or be willing to live respectfully by those values.

Craig and Megan are nourished by, and committed to, living in community, so a person who is ready to participate in weekly potlucks, board game nights, house meetings, etc, would be best suited to join the work exchange program and enjoy their experience here. They also have an 8 year old son that is the most important thing that they plan to grow :).

What’s in it for You?

  • Your hosts offer housing, farm vegetables, and a small living stipend to friends willing to commit to Sun Moon Farm. The primary season runs from May through October. Priority is given to those available to stay for as much of that time as possible.
  • Interns live in the farm house and have use of a communal kitchen (where we also prepare CSA shares and bake bread for customers) Sun Moon Farm has also worked with a few college programs to help make a season there eligible for course credit. Upkeep and maintenance of their personal space is the responsibility of interns.

No pets, no smoking. Friends and partners who want to visit and work are welcome!
