12-month volunteer program in Scotland

Beannachar is a vibrant Camphill Community located in the scenic countryside on the outskirts of Aberdeen, just two miles from the city center. The community includes a grand 19th-century house, housing the Silver Birch community, alongside two purpose-built homes, Rose and Linden. The site offers various workshops, including those for weaving, woodwork, sculpture, arts and crafts, laundry, candle making, and Tools for Self Reliance.Beannachar offers a 12-month program for international volunteers, providing a unique opportunity for personal growth and community involvement.

About the volunteer program

Each year, Beannachar has up to 20 vacancies for international volunteer co-workers to join for a 12-month placement.

This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals to experience shared living with other co-workers and the residential students under their care.

Volunteers will support students who have a range of additional support needs across the residential houses, day services workshops, gardens, the estate, and within the wider community of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

There is also an opportunity for learning. Volunteers can participate in the Induction Training and practice learning programmes, which include one-hour weekly sessions, visits to other centres, and occasional specific training sessions and lectures. First Aid, epilepsy, manual handling, food hygiene, health and safety, and adult protection courses are also offered to all co-workers. Completion of a full year entitles volunteers to a certificate, which can be valuable when moving on to future employment or university/college placements.

Volunteers will receive regular monthly supervision and support sessions from the House Coordinator.
