Tenerife Horse Rescue is a sustainable, eco-friendly sanctuary on the island of Tenerife (Spain), dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned and mistreated horses, as well as providing shelter for other animals such as sheep, goats, cats, and dogs, to name a few. Volunteers have the unique opportunity to work closely with these animals while contributing to environmental projects that promote self-sufficiency and green living.

About the volunteer / work exchange program

Both short- and long-term work exchange opportunities are available at the sanctuary, depending on how much time you can invest in getting involved in the daily operations of Tenerife Horse Rescue.

Your contribution would be needed in several different areas, such as animal care, maintenance, permaculture farming, and office support.

If you don’t like animals, random animal noises, or dogs and cats in your living room or kitchen, this might not be the right place for you.

Long-term volunteer programs are completely cost-free, requiring a stay of between 1 and 3 months, depending on the position you are applying for. Food and basic accommodation are provided in exchange for 25 hours of work per week, along with a few additional hours dedicated to community tasks (mainly cleaning). The accommodation is rustic and basic but comfortable, and everything you need for the duration of your stay will be provided.
