Mount Lebanon Residency is a community of artists, researchers, and farmers dedicated to supporting the arts in New Lebanon, NY.

The Abode Farm is a cooperatively-run farm in New Lebanon, NY. The farm produces seasonal vegetables, herbs, and flowers for a CSA share, as well as local businesses, schools, and farmers markets. The Abode Farm’s growing practices focus on diversity, cover cropping, composts, rock minerals, and careful crop rotation. The farm does not use any synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides and relies on Belgian draft horses as its primary source of power, which helps it remain light on the land and sensitive to the earth’s rhythms.

Mount Lebanon Residency and Abode Farm collaborate in many areas. Often working together to host community events and facilitate work exchange, this relationship illuminates the great potential of art and agriculture as a creative and connective force.

About the work exchange program

Mount Lebanon Residency seeks artists and experimental thinkers for month-long residencies from July to October.

The program provides residents with studio space, lodging in the old Shaker Forge, organic vegetables, and a communal kitchen. In exchange, residents spend one day a week working at the Abode Farm or contributing in their own way to the community.

For 2019, residents will have the opportunity to create works using the resources available at the Shaker Museum of Mount Lebanon, home to the world’s most comprehensive collection of Shaker objects, archives, and books.

Eligibility

Past residents have included painters, scholars, herbalists, dancers, media artists, musicians, activists, sculptors, performance artists, and poets, among many others.
