Work exhange, volunteering in a campground in West VirginiaAbrams Creek Campground is an eco-friendly campground and retreat center in the Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Twenty acres of pristine stream-front wilderness with cascades, waterfalls, & swimming holes, a perfect place for an outdoor enthusiast.

About the work exhange program

Be a part of the Abrams Creek Campground team, volunteer a couple of hours of work per day in exchange for free accommodations, free healthy meals, with lots of fun events and activities around camp and around the highlands region of West Virginia.

What’s in it for you?

    Additional lodging in large outdoor stream front campsite close to lodge house (whenever you feel like being outdoors for a night)

  • Free attendance of many workshops hosted at the campground
  • Develop friendships with staff and other volunteer camp members and seasonal campground guests.

  • Free internet terminals / wi-fi / satellite TV with movie channels / long distance telephone included / Play Station 2…
  • Educational: learn to identify local plants, flowers, trees, and creatures (salamanders, moths, fish…) – and learn some basic survival skills.
  • 3,000 feet of stream front to enjoy, campfires, bon-fires, tubing, volleyball, horseshoes, and lots of great people

Your responsibilities

  • some yard work
  • construction, and other unusual and fun projects

Time Schedule

Seeking participants all seasons of the year, particularly the high summer season. You may select to only participate for one week or weekend, week to week, or many consecutive weeks. You may leave at any time if you get homesick or if you are ready to return to your regular urban or other life.

3 hours of help / work per day (aided and supervised) is required from all work exchangers.
