About the work exchange program

Anahata Yoga Retreat, nestled in the heart of Golden Bay, is currently in a transitional phase. During this time, they are seeking dedicated individuals—or a small family—who are passionate about sustainability and community living to help steward this unique, off-grid property. This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to live close to nature while contributing to the care and upkeep of a tranquil, eco-conscious retreat centre. You’ll be supporting the land and facilities as the retreat moves toward new ownership.

Your tasks

• General maintenance of buildings, equipment, and grounds.
• Regular checks on essential systems such as solar power and water supply.
• Preparing spaces for occasional property viewings.
• Light gardening and landscape care as needed.

Requirements

• Be responsible, proactive, and able to manage your time well.
• Be comfortable working independently and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Be physically fit and capable of handling general maintenance work.
• Hold a full NZ driver’s license and be confident driving a manual vehicle with a trailer (priority will be given to applicants with this experience).
• Be able to safely operate lawnmowers, whipper snippers, and other tools.

Additional skills that are a plus:

• Experience with landscaping or gardening.
• Basic plumbing knowledge.
• Familiarity with solar power and simple electrical systems.
• Understanding of composting toilets and humanure systems.
