Program details

CO Project Farm is nestled in the rolling wine and olive country of Central Portugal. It used to be an abandoned olive farm when  Dr. Leyla Acaroglu decided to  turn it through sustainable design principles into one of the world’s first Brain Spas. CO stands for creative optimism, a brain spa and living-learning laboratory for creative changemakers.

The ‘brain spa’ concept Leyla came up with after finding herself stressed out and overworked from her work as a serial social entrepreneur. She set about creating a space that supports regenerative learning and building off all the new science around the health benefits of spending time in nature. Leyla created the CO Project’s living-learning laboratory as a way of exploring natural systems, sustainable living, sharing hands-on experimentation, designed to ignite creative thinking and offer people from all walks of life the opportunity to learn directly from nature.

The farm offers unique farm experiences, creative retreats, and educative programs in contemporary sustainable living and organic agriculture.

About the work exchange program

The CO Project Farm is an emerging creative and cultural space for educative and personal project development experiences. Set in the countryside and focusing on the best sustainable design and small scale permaculture/organic farming techniques, they are building a unique new Brain Spa concept. The project is connected to the UnSchool Association, a not-for-profit set up to advanced leadership in sustainability and the circular economy.

There are longer term internships usually 3-6 months and shorter term volunteering for between 2-4 weeks. All programs offer all on-farm expenses covered in exchange for farm work and contributions to the project.
