El Terreno is situated 20 minutes outside Guaranda, in the village of Atandahua, a gateway to numerous low-income, rural communities. These communities may face resource limitations, but they are rich in friendliness, cultural heritage, and ecological diversity. El Terreno collaborates with the local population to develop sustainable solutions that bring lasting improvements to their quality of life. By fostering meaningful connections, it also offers visitors the chance to engage in transformative travel and educational experiences. About the volunteer program
El Terreno invites individuals to contribute to the creation of vibrant, prosperous, and regenerative communities in the Ecuadorian Andes, ensuring that migration becomes a choice rather than a necessity. The program offers opportunities in various roles, including:
- Cultural Exchange Centre Volunteers (minimum 2 weeks)
- Volunteer Coordinators (minimum 3 months)
- NGO Fundraising Specialists (minimum 3 months)
- Social Enterprise Marketing Specialists (minimum 3 months)
- Social Enterprise Finance & Admin Specialists (minimum 3 months)
- Business Development Specialists (minimum 3 months)
- Building & Maintenance Specialists (minimum 3 months)
- Permaculture & Gardening Specialists (minimum 3 months)
The project is located on a hillside in the village of Atandahua, near the charming colonial town of Guaranda in central Ecuador. Situated in a valley surrounded by rolling farmland and indigenous communities, it offers a breathtaking view of the majestic Chimborazo Volcano—the point on Earth closest to the sun.
Your responsibilities
Participants in the free volunteering program assist with
- cooking,
- cleaning,
- and manual labor at the cultural exchange center,
- supporting the daily operations of socio-environmental programs connecting international interns with indigenous communities.
For those staying 12 weeks or longer and possessing skills in:
- marketing,
- finance,
- business development,
- maintenance,
- or gardening,
additional opportunities to help expand the social enterprise and maintain the center are available.
This program offers a chance to immerse oneself in new cultures, contribute to a meaningful cause, and live within a community of change-makers.
