Organic farm helpers needed in Jamaica

Rio Gran Health Farm is located in Windsor, Portland. The total farm area covers 9 acres of mostly hilly land. As one of the 12 demonstration sites for organic agriculture which have been selected as part of an EU-funded and FAO managed project, the Farm is involved in poultry rearing, and the production of leafy vegetables.

The farm was created as an Agritourism enterprise to be developed as the nucleus of a Community Tourism effort, and hosts visitors both as part of its functions as a demonstration plot and as a tourist attraction. The Rio Grande Valley watershed is part of the Blue Mountain and John Crow Mountain National Park which can be accessed easily from the farm.

Farm volunteer program details

Volunteers on Rio Gran Health Farm will be able to learn much about the flora and fauna of the area as well as the unique cultural heritage of  Jamaica.  T

Your tasks would be the following:

• Planting and reaping as needed
• Operating farm machinery (chipper/shredder, chain saw, rotary tiller, brush cutter)
• Assisting with bee-keeping operations
• Guiding visitors around the farm
• Assisting with household chores

Dormitory facilities with running water , flush toilets, electricity and gas stove will be provided. Smoking, use of alcohol or prohibited substancesare not allowed on the farm.

Please, plan to stay at least a month, but no more than 3 months.

• Boots or strong shoes
• Rain gear
