Organic farm work exchange in Cornwall, England
Program details
Keveral Farm is an organic farm community and a housing co-operative, founded in 1973 near Looe, Cornwall in the south-west of England. The farm is owned and managed co-operatively by the members of the community and uses permaculture ideas.
The 30 acres of land consists of veg plots, polytunnels, soft fruit, orchard, woodland, meadow and camping. It has been certified organic by the Soil Association for more than 30 years. The farm does weekly veg box deliveries to local people since 1997, and have a Visitor’s Barn which is used for yoga, table tennis, events and group visits.
About the work exchange program
Keveral Farm usually has a small number of volunteers each year who help in the following areas:
- vegetable & fruit growing (outdoor and in polytunnels)
- apple juice and cider production
- gardening
- campsite management
- woodland and general land management.
Work exchangers may be able to stay in the main farmhouse, or if that is not possible, they will be based in the Visitors Barn (which is also used by some campers in the summer). Work exchangers will sometimes eat with their host, and sometimes you will prepare their own meals.
It’s best if you arrive on a Saturday or Sunday, so that the working week is Monday to Friday. The working day is usually 9-5, so after breaks that is about 6.5 hours of work per day.
You will have days off and free time for exploring and relaxing – usually two days off for each five days worked.
There are beautiful places to visit nearby. The farm is 15 minutes walk through the woods to the beach at Seaton, with great walks along the beach and coast path. Wifi is available in the house.
