Permaculture farm summer volunteer program in Portugal

Permaculture volunteer program in Portugal

Set in a quiet green valley near Ulgueira and Almoçageme in the Sintra region of Portugal, the experience takes place just minutes from the Atlantic coast and about 45 minutes from Lisbon. The land is off grid, surrounded by rolling hills, forests and small villages, so it feels deeply connected to nature without being hard to reach. It’s hosted by a community-driven organization focused on regenerative living, hands-on learning and real human connection. Days are shaped by practical work, shared meals and learning by doing alongside people from all over the world. The vibe is grounded, curious and collaborative rather than academic. If you’re craving meaningful skills, slower living and a beautiful coastal landscape, it’s a pretty special place to land.

About the free volunteering program

The opportunity is with Terra Alta, a well-established permaculture education and research centre in the Sintra region of Portugal. You’ll be living and working right on their off-grid demonstration site set between the sea-side villages of Almoçageme and Ulgueira, with beaches and nature on your doorstep and easy access from Lisbon and Sintra.

Over a period of weeks or months (depending on the role you choose), you’ll support the organisation of and running of immersive Permaculture Design Courses, teacher training events, or help out across the community as a volunteer. Roles vary but all are rooted in learning by doing, being part of a community, and contributing to real projects that show regenerative living in action.
