Permaculture learning adventure, work exchange in New Zealand
Blockhill Forest Garden & EcoCabin is an example in natural living based on and inspired by permaculture principals in North Canterbury, an hour and a half north of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. Blockhill provides a feeling of isolation while remaining accessible to all major destinations and attractions. Visit, work, learn, stay and relax.
About the work exchange program
Blockhill needs help with the common, day-to-day work of living in nature. This is usually 2-3 hours of work activities per day depending on the weather.
Your activities may include:
- Clearing paths and removing weeds.
- Making and improving gardens.
- Harvesting fruit and vegetables.
- Planting and pruning trees.
- Making firewood.
The duration of the program is between 3-7 days, you will be accommodated in a self contained modified shipping container house with enclosed outdoor kitchen. Private outdoor solar and wood heated shower and composting toilet is available.
What will you receive in exchange for your work?
- Comfortable and funky accommodation.
- Fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables from the forest garden.
- Educational experiences and dedicated learning activities such as flax weaving, bread making, plant identification etc.
Please, bear in mind that you are responsible for providing your own food and meal preparation with access to fresh fruit and vegetables from the forest garden.
