Te Paranui is a permaculture learning and resource centre which currently manages 300 square metres of organic vegetable gardens, a young food forest with well over 50 fruit and nut trees on site and the paddocks used by the Te Paranui Animal Sanctuary, using eco-grazing/ IMRG techniques to keep the animals naturally healthy and to ensure that their impact on the paddocks and surrounding eco-system are as light as possible.

About the work exchange & volunteer program

Te Paranui is always looking for longer-term volunteers who are keen on learning and practicing Permaculture. If you have a little knowledge in Permaculture already, or even a PDC, but you want to get hands on experience, this would be a great place to stay long-term and learn how to manage and develop a project like this.

Volunteer tasks may vary by day according to your skills and what needs being done, but usually there is a lot of gardening, small construction projects, fencing, and caring for our animal friends, paddocks and stables.

The farm has space for up to five volunteers who work  25 hours a week contributing to the Permaculture gardens and systems, animal sanctuary, general maintenance and fencing and going to green Xchange partners in Marlborough.

Volunteers have basic but comfortable shared accommodation, and fresh ingredients for 3 whole-food plant-based meals per day.

Accommodation and meals are provided on working days from Monday to Friday.

Te Paranui is located in a rural area, approximately 10 minutes from both Picton and Blenheim, transportation is needed to get you places. Hitchhiking is always possible and a daily bus-service is available as well.
