In the peaceful countryside of Winterswijk, near the Dutch–German border, volunteers are invited to take part in the daily life of a Buddhist retreat center. Surrounded by fields and forests, it’s a place where simple tasks become meaningful and community spirit is at the heart of everything. The center offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere for anyone wishing to step away from the busyness of everyday life, connect with people from around the world, and support a community devoted to meditation, mindfulness, and Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Volunteering here means joining an international team and contributing to the care and growth of a truly unique retreat space.
About the free volunteer program
The retreat center is dedicated to meditation, community, and the preservation of Tibetan Buddhist traditions. It is run entirely by volunteers and welcomes people from all backgrounds who wish to lend a helping hand. At the moment, the center is preparing for a trial run from September 1 to October 18, during which volunteers can help set up and test the facilities and programs. Both short-term and long-term stays are possible, and all volunteers are accommodated in a dedicated volunteer wing at the center.
Requirements
- Willingness to contribute to the daily running of the center.
- Open-mindedness and respect for Buddhist values and community life.
- Ability to communicate in English (Dutch is a plus, but not necessary).
- Flexibility to take on different kinds of tasks as needed.
Your tasks
Volunteers support the retreat center in a variety of ways, depending on skills and current needs.
Tasks may include:
- Cooking and kitchen help.
- Guest care and hospitality.
- Gardening and landscaping.
- General maintenance and repairs.
- Sacred art and craft activities.
- Publicity and office support.
