The Sea Turtle Rescue Center in Surf City, NC, is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating injured or stranded sea turtles. About the internship program
The Sea Turtle Rescue Center’s internship program provides college students and recent graduates with an immersive, hands-on experience in sea turtle care and conservation. Interns also develop skills in science communication by leading environmental education programs and public tours. Additionally, they engage in a project focused on nonprofit operations, which may involve areas such as education, marketing, communications, or facilities management. Summer interns have the opportunity to further develop leadership skills by mentoring high school Junior Interns and Sea Turtle Camp volunteers.
Requirements
- College undergraduate or recent graduate, minimum 18 years of age.
- Major in environmental or biological sciences or similar.
- Solid computer and data entry skills.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Ability to understand and follow detailed instructions.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Positive attitude.
- Covid vaccination.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- The ability to get along well with others.
Valid drivers’ license preferred, personal laptop or tablet highly recommended. Minimum 12-14 week commitment, depending on semester of service.
What’s in it for You?
- Free, shared housing with utilities included. The iintern guest house is conveniently located next door to the sea turtle hospital. Housing is co-ed, and interns should expect to share a room with one other intern of the same gender.
- Stipend: Full-time interns (40-50 hours per week, 12 week minimum) who meet all internship expectations, complete all internship responsibilities, and work the entire 12 weeks will receive a $1,200 stipend at the end of their internship.Additional weeks earn $100/week added stipend.
Part-time interns (20-30 hours per week, 12 week minimum) who work the entire 12 weeks will receive a $600 stipend at the end of their internship.
Travel, health insurance or food are not covered by the internship program.
