Vineyard work exchange opportunity for couples in New Zealand

Winery wwoofing opportunity in New Zealand

Tuki Vineyard is a peaceful, sustainably managed vineyard tucked away in New Zealand’s scenic Tukituki River valley. With a strong focus on organic practices, the aim is to grow healthy vines and craft wines that truly reflect the land. Life here follows the rhythm of nature—working with the seasons, not against them.
The name ‘Tuki’ comes from a Māori word meaning rhythmic beat or chant, a nod to both the natural flow of vineyard life and the valley it calls home. WWOOFing opportunities are available for couples only, offering a hands-on experience in a setting that values simplicity, sustainability, and a deep connection to the land.

About the work exchange program

Tuki Vineyard, situated in New Zealand’s picturesque Tukituki River valley, offers WWOOFing* opportunities for couples aged 20 and over. Volunteers engage in approximately 4 hours of daily tasks, contributing to the vineyard’s organic and sustainable practices.

WWOOFing: WWOOFing is not paid work—it’s more like a cultural and educational exchange. People do it to learn new skills, enjoy nature, contribute to good causes, or simply take a break from city life. It’s open to people of all ages and backgrounds, though individual hosts may set their own requirements.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be couples aged 20 or older.
  • An initial commitment of one week is preferred, with potential extensions based on mutual agreement and workload.
  • Volunteers should contact the vineyard 1–4 weeks prior to their desired start date, as availability is often determined close to the time.
  • Having a personal vehicle is recommended due to the vineyard’s location 4 km from Havelock North village; bicycles are available for use if needed.

Your Responsibilities

Volunteers assist with various tasks around the property, including:

  • Weeding and pruning.
  • Painting and general maintenance.
  • Firewood preparation.
  • Fruit picking.
  • Operating equipment like weed-whackers.
  • Water blasting and raking leaves.
  • Grubbing thistles.

These activities support the vineyard’s commitment to organic farming and sustainability.

What’s in it for You?

Volunteers are provided with free accommodation in a self-contained unit featuring a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and living area. While meals are self-catered, hosts occasionally invite volunteers to join them for dinners or BBQs, offering a chance to enjoy local wines and hospitality.
