About the free volunteer program
Govardhan Ecovillage (GEV) is an award-winning eco-community project initiated by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), located across 120 acres in the tranquil Sahyadri Mountains of Maharashtra, India. The sanctuary operates on the core principle of Simple Living and High Thinking, combining spiritual growth, Bhakti Yoga, and environmental sustainability. Daily life centers on ashram living, where volunteers, monks, and yogis practice selfless service (seva) while maintaining harmony with nature, the community, and the divine.
The day follows a structured rhythm beginning at 5:15 AM with arati, chanting, yoga, and meditation, followed by departmental service and evening kirtans. Volunteers help across various areas like the organic farm, goshala (cow shelter), nursery, kitchen, or social media, while enjoying a peaceful, distraction-free environment.
Volunteers contribute 6 hours per day (42 hours per week) in assigned departments. The structured daily schedule runs from 5:15 AM to 7:30 PM, incorporating both seva and spiritual activities.
Programs start on the 1st and 16th of every month. A minimum stay of 2 weeks is required, with preference given to long-term applicants. A refundable security deposit of ₹2,000 (Indian Rupees) is required upon confirmation to hold your spot.
The first week serves as an evaluation period for both you and the team to ensure mutual compatibility with the program standards.
