The Sunrock Backpackers Hostel and farm on Corfu is run by a very eccentric, loving, hospitable Greek family. It started with Spyros opening the hostel in 1986 – making it one of the oldest hotels on Corfu. Unlike many of the newer places where the beach is so far it’s inaccessible, the Sunrock had first choice and is right by one of the best beaches on the island, Pelekas Beach. You will be immediately welcomed into the family and fall into the whirlwind of Greek life. The farm has been in the family for generations and started feeding the hostel about a decade ago by producing milk, meat, vegetables, wine and honey.
Volunteer program details
Accommodation and meals will be offered to all volunteers in exchange for daily work at the hostel.
You’ll be expected to commit for the entire time, and be prepared to put in some serious elbow grease. But in return, you’ll be treated to a truly authentic Greek experience and meet some extraordinary people along the way, with enough amazing stories and memories to last a lifetime!
Typical duties include
- Welcoming guests
- Washing dishes and other kitchen duties
- Cleaning guest rooms and bathrooms
- Food preparation and service
- Laundry duties
- Bar work
