La Iguana Perdida hostel is located in Santa Cruz on the north shore of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, in what is unquestionably one of the most beautiful places on earth. Come and see for yourself, it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Amazing views, delicious food, clean rooms, great diving, and world-class laziness are all here waiting for you!

The hostel is looking for fun, energetic people to volunteer year around. In return for your work behind the bar and the reception, you will get free accommodation, delicious meals, yoga, kayak rental, half price drinks from our bar and endless life experience! It’s a really fun way to spend 6 weeks in a beautiful location.

Volunteers must speak basic Spanish and have hospitality experience.

The Iguana Perdida is more than just a place to stay, it is a center for community projects aimed at helping this area which has so many basic needs. The Iguana is active with Amigos de Santa Cruz, a non-governmental organization dedicated to helping education health and economic development of Santa Cruz La Laguna and neighboring villages. Volunteer opportunities are available, just come on in to the Iguana and ask for Deedle.

How to get there

If you are traveling from Panajachel proceed to the public boat dock called Tzanjuyu (san-hoo-yoo) that serves San Pedro and Santa Cruz. Your shuttle driver can drop you at the dock or you can take a Q5 tuk tuk from anywhere in Panajachel.  Once at the dock you can travel by either private or public boat. Public boats leave every 20 to 30 minutes and cost Q10 per person to Santa Cruz. Private boats to Santa Cruz should cost around Q100 to Q150 depending on your bargaining skills. The boats begin running around 6:30am and the last is at 7:30pm.  We recommend you do not ask how much the public boat costs but rather tell the driver where you want to go and have Q10 per person available when you arrive in Santa Cruz. If you are traveling with lots of luggage prepare to pay a bit more.
