Volunteers needed at one of the largest campsites in Iceland

Úlfljótsvatn Scout and Adventure Centre has been a special place for Icelandic Scouts since it was founded back in 1941. Tucked away in the southwest of Iceland, it’s surrounded by stunning nature and offers endless chances for adventure. All year round, the camp welcomes Scout groups, school trips, families, and even companies looking for a unique outdoor experience. Whether it’s climbing the tallest tower in Iceland, paddling across the lake, hiking nearby trails, or just enjoying the outdoors with friends, there’s always something to do. Volunteers are welcome to apply for the autumn season to help keep the camp running and be part of this inspiring place.

About the free volunteer program

Each season, a dedicated group of volunteers helps keep the Úlfljótsvatn Scout and Adventure Centre running smoothly. For three months, they take part in the daily life of the center—preparing meals, supporting visiting groups, and leading fun, hands-on activities out in nature. It’s a chance to be part of something meaningful, gain valuable experience, and enjoy Iceland’s beautiful outdoors at the same time.

Requirements

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to speak English fluently.
• Knowledge of Icelandic or other languages is a plus.
• A positive attitude, team spirit, and a willingness to learn and adapt are essential.

Your responsibilities

Volunteers rotate through three teams—Camp, Guest Services, and Program—spending a few weeks with each. Tasks include:

• Preparing and serving food.
• Keeping guest spaces clean and welcoming.
• Helping with outdoor and indoor activities.
• Assisting with ongoing projects and special events.
• Doing basic maintenance and looking after the grounds.
• Creating a friendly and inclusive environment for everyone.

All volunteers work under the guidance of team managers and coordinators.
