Volunteers needed for an arid climate permaculture project in Jordan
Program details
Desertification is one of the most pressing global challenges today. Over 2.1 billion people live in drylands, many of which are manmade due to decades of environmental abuse. This highlights the urgent need for sustainable practices and environmental care.
The Greening the Desert Project in the heart of Jordan’s Dead Sea Valley, a remarkable environmental endeavor took root in the early 2000s. The project follows the ideas of permaculture, which is a philosophy that aims to copy natural patterns and processes. In this dry and thirsty place with very little rain, permaculture is very important. It includes different plans and techniques to help manage water and promote sustainable farming.
If you are ready to get involved in this project and have a genuine interest in permaculture, read on for more details.
About the work exchange program
Words from your host:
“We are seeking flexible, dedicated, and enthusiastic volunteers with a positive attitude to support the Greening the Desert Project’s vision and mission. As a volunteer, you’ll gain hands-on experience with a variety of arid climate permaculture techniques, learn which plant species thrive in these conditions, and discover water conservation methods. You’ll also work with our small-scale animal systems, including rabbits and chickens. No two days are the same at our project site—expect your days to be busy, challenging, exciting, frustrating, and rewarding all at once.
