Spannocchia sustains a traditional way of life in Tuscany, centered on community, honoring heritage, and responsible resource management. It’s a historic 1,100-acre rustic estate located in the heart of one of the most beautiful parts of Italy.The property is also a short drive from some of the best art and architectural treasures in the region. Spannocchia offers winter and year around farm volunteer opportunities with a focus on animal care and upkeep of the vineyards and olive groves in the coming months.

About the winter farm volunteer program

Escape the hustle and bustle and embrace the serene winter season at Spannocchia. Four dedicated volunteers are needed to reside and work on the farm from December to February. Your main tasks will involve caring for the animals and maintaining the vineyards, olive groves, and the Tenuta.

Volunteers will be expected to dedicate around 30 to 40 hours per week to their duties, allowing for ample free time to explore the picturesque Tuscan countryside and pursue personal interests. In return for your hard work,  accommodation, meals, and hands-on learning experiences will be provided. Engaging in farm work is not only fulfilling but also presents the opportunity to acquire new skills and engage with the knowledgeable Italian staff, who have a wealth of wisdom about traditional Tuscan farming techniques and cultural practices.

If selected, you will need to become a member of Friends of Spannocchia by obtaining a volunteer-level membership ($30) and sign up with WWOOF Italia (€35 annual fee).

What’s in it for You?

• Free accommodation: volunteers are accommodated in Casa Pulcinelli, a spacious farmhouse situated in the Castello complex. Casa Pulcinelli offers seven bedrooms, three shared bathrooms, and a fully-equipped kitchen. Volunteers reside in double-occupancy rooms with other volunteers, apprentices, or interns. They share meals, collaborate on tasks, and often socialize during leisure time.
• Free meals, and hands-on farm learning experiences.

About the year around volunteer program

Spannocchia is able to accommodate a small number of individual volunteers based on the farm’s current requirements and available space. Volunteers will help with various farming tasks and property upkeep, which will depend on ongoing projects, immediate needs.

There are a number of recreational opportunities at Spannocchia including hiking trails, dirt roads for running, forests for foraging wild herbs and mushrooms, and a swimming pool when in season. The views of the countryside and surrounding farm inspire painting, drawing, and other forms of artistic expression.
