Tushita Meditation Centre is a center for the study and practice of Buddhism from the Tibetan Mahayana tradition. It’s located on a forested mountain slope at an altitude of 1888m (6190ft) in the Dhauladhar range, above the town of McLeod Ganj – the seat in exile of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama – in Himachal Pradesh, Northern India, the beautiful foothills of the Himalayas.

About the work exchange  & volunteer program

Tushita aims to provide a friendly and conducive environment for people of all nationalities and backgrounds to learn about and put into practice the teachings of the Buddha. With this in mind Tushita organizes regular introductory courses on Buddhist philosophy and meditation, as well as intermediate level courses and group retreats for experienced students.

Tushita is looking for a new Spiritual Program Coordinator Assistant

This volunteer program is a wonderful opportunity to benefit others, while living in the blessed environment of a multi-cultural Dharma centre in McLeod Ganj, India (aka “Little Lhasa”), the home-in-exile of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Tushita’s volunteers have a 6 day working week. Food and board will be provided at Tushita as well as the offer of a free course after the working period. A minimum commitment of 3 months (unless otherwise stated) is required.

This position would be most suitable for a native English speaker or somebody with excellent written English. The commitment will be at least 1 year or longer with 1 month of mutual trial. Applicant should have some basic knowledge of Buddhism and Tushita (best having done a Tushita course yourself!) be enthusiastic, self-motivated, well organized and happy to serve in a multi-cultured environment.

Your responsibilities

• creating posters and updating course related information on our social media pages (Facebook and Instagram page)
• getting course materials ready for the teachers with the help of director
• keeping spiritual program coordinator (SPC) informed of course registration levels
• archiving course/retreat/ special event audio and images to hard drive
• assisting with setting up of pujas
• taking care of altar in SPC office
• helping SPC taking care of teachers and lamas.

Skills needed

• excellent verbal and written English
• very good computer and social media skills
• archiving skills.
