The Backpack is an award winning, Fair Trade hostel that invests in people and communities, giving meaningful and relaxed travel experiences in Cape Town, South Africa.  The Hostel has been accredited by Fair Trade in Tourism since 2006.

This trade mark is awarded to businesses that adhere to fair trade criteria, fair wages and work­ing con­di­tions, fair oper­a­tions, pur­chas­ing and dis­tri­b­u­tion of ben­e­fits, eth­i­cal busi­ness prac­tices and respect for human rights, cul­ture and the environment.

Vacancies for interns

• Photographer, graphic artist – you will need to have your own outstanding social media profile and be passionate about analyzing data or a google analytics
• In-house events & activity organizer – arranging,hosting and entertaining activities for our guests (eg. competitions, braais, parties, your ideas)
• Students or graduates in hospitality management & or responsible tourism

All interns are expected to participate in the volunteer or community projects run by the Backpack Hostel.

Requirements

• intermediate English language, written and spoken
• ability to work flexible hours between 7am and 10pm daily
• computer literate with good skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet

Tasks you will be doing

• general front desk reception duties
• checking guests in and out
• receiving and receipting payments
• guest reservations on online booking system
• guest enquiries with regards to travel planning, car rentals, room reservations
• answering switchboard / telephone
• tour sales and bookings
• café / bar shift when required, including coffees, drinks, stocktaking, restock of bar
• assisting with any duties as required by Duty Manager

Work 35 hours a week, including weekends and Public Holidays
