Work exchange program at a holistic retreat center near Glastonbury in Somerset

Work exchange, volunteering at a retreat center near Glastonbury

Located just five miles from Glastonbury, on the edge of Compton Dundon village in Somerset, EarthSpirit lies within the sacred “temenos” of Avalon. The center enjoys a stunning setting between two nature reserves and is only a short two-minute walk from St. Andrew’s Church, home to a remarkable 1,800-year-old yew tree. Its carefully restored 17th-century farm buildings have been transformed into a charming venue, surrounded by seven acres of peaceful fields and gardens. The center hosts retreats for a diverse range of groups, typically focused on bodywork, healing, shamanism, meditation, counseling, tantra, and dance. Helping hands are always welcome. About the work exchange, volunteer program

Volunteering at EarthSpirit offers a unique opportunity to experience life at a holistic retreat center near Glastonbury, Somerset. Volunteers receive lodging and meals in exchange for five hours of work per day, five days a week, with the possibility of long-term stays following a trial period.

Tasks vary from gardening, maintenance, and housekeeping to kitchen assistance, social media, or basic office work, depending on current needs.

Program details

  • Volunteers are expected to contribute a minimum of 25 hours of work per week in exchange for food and accommodation. Shifts are scheduled every Monday morning, and tasks are typically assigned in one of four areas: site maintenance, gardening, kitchen assistance, or housekeeping. While volunteers can express preferences based on their skills or interests, assignments will ultimately depend on the center’s needs. If you have a particular skill and wish to focus on a specific area of work, please inform the team in advance, and they will do their best to accommodate your request.
  • Accommodation is provided in either a room or a caravan, and while efforts are made to minimize disruptions, accommodations may change based on the needs of visiting groups.
  • Volunteer stays are temporary and flexible. You are free to leave at any time, though advance notice is greatly appreciated. Similarly, the center reserves the right to end the arrangement if necessary, with sufficient time provided to make alternative plans. Longer-term volunteers will begin with a trial period, and most volunteer stays are limited to three months.
  • Meals are vegetarian and typically prepared by the kitchen staff, with set meal times that may vary based on group schedules. During busy periods, meals will be plated for you. If you have specific dietary requirements, please inform the team in advance. While every effort is made to accommodate dietary needs, those with complex requirements may occasionally need to prepare simple meals for themselves using the center’s ingredients.
  • Arrival and departure dates will be arranged prior to your stay. Unless an extension is agreed upon, volunteers are encouraged to plan their next steps early to ensure a smooth transition after their stay.

Interested applicants are encouraged to email francoise@earthspirit-centre.co.uk with details of their relevant experience, areas of interest, availability, and a photo.

Please note that non-EU residents must have a valid work visa or limit their stay to 30 days.
