What is Usually Included in a Yoga Teacher Exchange?
While every retreat center has its own rules, most hosts offer a standard package in exchange for your teaching hours (usually 2 to 4 classes per day):
- Free Accommodation: This can range from a private room in an eco-lodge to a shared dorm or a tent in a glamping site.
- Vegetarian or Vegan Meals: Most ashrams and spiritual centers provide 2 or 3 healthy meals a day.
- Community Perks: Free access to additional workshops, meditation halls, surfboards, or local excursions during your days off.
Essential Requirements for Yoga Volunteers
To successfully apply for the positions listed on our platform, hosts will generally look for the following credentials:
- Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) Certificate: Having a registered RYT 200 qualification is almost always mandatory to ensure guest safety. High-end luxury retreats might require an RYT 500 certification.
- Insurance and Visas: Most volunteer roles are done on a standard tourist visa, but it is your responsibility to check the country’s local regulations. We highly recommend getting travel insurance that covers sports and yoga teaching activity.
- Teaching Experience: Don’t worry if you are a newly certified teacher! Many eco-communities and smaller hostels welcome fresh graduates looking to gain their first real-world teaching hours.
