Land of Joy  is a buddhist residential retreat centre run by volunteers founded in 2010 in the UK. Its stunning location in the quiet and peaceful Northumberland National Park provides the perfect setting for people to disconnect from everyday life while having the space to discover or reconnect with a different perspective. The center provides a full retreat program throughout the year. This includes introductory courses and retreats, universal weekends and tantric retreats of various lengths.

About the volunteer & work exchange program

Committed, enthusiastic and compassionate people as short-term team members are needed to assist the longer-term on-site team members. People in this role will work closely with the staff (Housekeeper, Cook, Woodland & Wildlife Manager and Grounds/Maintenance Manager) to ensure the smooth running of the centre.

They will help with the following depending on what’s happening at the centre

• Cleaning retreat accommodation and communal areas.
• Food preparation.
• Some gardening and helping in the woodland when time allows.

Qualities/skills required

• Able to work effectively in a small team and follow instructions.
• Flexible and adaptable to what the centre needs.
• Comfortable living in a communal setting in a rural location.
• Good spoken and written English.
• Able to legally work in the UK.
• Respect for the FPMT organisation and willingness to live by the five precepts whilst at Land of Joy.
• A sense of humour.

• Two days off per week for working 6-8 hours per days for five days a week.

Preferred stay for volunteers are minimum 2 months.
